Just Trade - Woodland Friends Warbler Brooch Yellow Bird

£14.00

These tagua brooches are individually hand carved from a single tagua nut: a seed from a type of palm that grow in the South American rainforests. Often known as vegetable ivory, tagua nuts are an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to animal ivory.

The tagua is sliced into thin sections and the silhouette is cut out. The material is then coloured using textile dyes before the final details are engraved by hand.

Designed by illustrator Coralie Bickford-Smith.

Hand carved by Olga and Elisa of the Yurac Muyo Project in Quito, Ecuador.

With gold plated steel brooch backs.

Dimensions: approx size  5cm x 2.5cm.

Care Instructions:
Tagua may darken slightly over time, this is normal. It can be buffed up with a soft white cotton cloth. Although hardwearing, if dropped on a hard surface tagua could break. Never immerse tagua in water as this can cause it to crack.
